Why this role is important
Bromley Experts by Experience runs different events for our members, and for the wider local Deaf and Disabled Community.
Each year, we hold our annual celebration event, Disability Pride. Disability Pride brings together a range of local Deaf and Disabled amateur performers and artists to create a show celebrating inclusive talent. Events like Pride offer opportunities for Deaf and Disabled people to come together as a community, share ideas and enjoy performances celebrating the Deaf and Disabled Communities.
Event Support Volunteers help us make sure the event runs smoothly and that those attending are comfortable, registered at the event and get the information they need.
What is involved
Event Support Volunteers support the team to make sure our annual Disability Pride event, where Deaf and Disabled performers come together to showcase their talents, runs smoothly. You might help by doing one or more of the following (you won’t be asked to do all these! They are only examples):
- Supporting a staff member on a stall.
- Supporting a staff member on the registration desk.
- Making sure the room is ready with enough chairs.
- General tidying and event preparation.
- Handing out feedback forms.
We ask you to:
- Arrive at Bromley United Reformed Church by 11.50am ready for the volunteer briefing at midday.
- We ask all volunteers to be available until at least 2.30pm. If you can stay until 3.45pm, that would be extra helpful.
IMPORTANT: You won’t be asked to offer any personal care, and we don’t expect you to push any wheelchair user in their chair.
When / Where / How often?
- Bromley United Reformed Church, 20 Widmore Road, Bromley, BR1 1RY
- Saturday 21st November 2026, starting at 12pm (midday) and staying for at least 90 minutes, though you are welcome for longer. The event finishes at 3.30pm and we’ll aim to finish at 3.45pm. Disability Pride 2026 updates on our event page.
- We ask Welcome Volunteers to arrive by midday, ready for Volunteer Briefing.
- You are welcome to stay for refreshments and to join the event!
What you will get out of it

- Out of pocket travel expenses and free refreshments during the event.
- Know you are part of creating a more accessible experience for attendees.
What we ask of you
- Attend the event, and if something changes in your availability let us know.
- Arrive in time for the volunteer briefing at midday.
- Treat everyone with respect and in an inclusive way.
- Follow event staff instructions on the day.
- Be on time and let us know if you’re running late.
- Be available from midday for at least 90 minutes, unless otherwise agreed beforehand with the Volunteering Coordinator.
Key skills and qualities
- A belief that Disabled People can and should be actively welcomed and included in our communities. An understanding that it is barriers in society that make that harder. This is called the Social Model of Disability.
- An inclusive, non-judgemental attitude.
- Able to make people feel included and relaxed.
- Comfortable with people and communicating in a way that’s accessible to you.
